DIGC101 - Academic Integrity

After spending the last week talking about, thinking about and filming about academic integrity and referencing it occurred to me that I may be toeing the line as to copyright infringement and the like. I don’t want to end up like Mr Tenenbaum and pay $22,500 per infringement…there might be a few.

Taking a closer look at the steps I’m taking to acknowledge my sources:

  • Photos: set a click through link to the original page, acknowledge the artist who uses the artwork and a written link through to the original page.
  • Band Details: I’m a little unclear as to how I could infringe copyright in using this information, as its publicly available and taken straight of the Triple J Unearthed site, or my own interpretation of the music, half review/half bullshit.
  • Tracks: This is the issue I’m most concerned about, these tracks are available for public download from the Triple J Unearthed site, I’m not claiming ownership over them or that they are my creation. In fact I explicitly state that in the side bar of my blog. But there is still the unclear situation that, if there is some kind of restriction on what I can do with them, am I in violation of copyright? Even if I am further promoting the band, and not gaining anything from posting the tracks in a media player on my blog.
