DIGC101 Research Question
Ideally, i’d like my research question to revolve around Google Sites seeing as thats what I’ve primarily used. I think of Google Sites as one of only a few sites that allows you to customise a whole site, not just a blog. Therefore it’s empowering people to explore, express and present themselves to a new digitized section of the world. That being the case I’d like to...

DIGC102 Industry Analysis
How has the P2P community helped the industry mature? The peer-to-peer community is one made out of literally millions of computers, a network of file sharing individuals. The success of these communities is built around ‘individual self interest’ (Cunningham, Alexander, Adilov, 2004). Cunningham (et. al) states that in joining and providing for this community, individuals self interests are...

DIGC101 - Google Sites
Google Sites When Dr Moore first asked us to create a Google site my initial reaction was one of annoyance, yet another website to try and maintain. To my surprise Google sites are easy, fun, and simple to maintain, yet still retain the flexibility of some of the more complex html features. I like Google Sites so much that I’ve now reconfigured my entire webification project to be based around...

DIGC101 - Academic Integrity
After spending the last week talking about, thinking about and filming about academic integrity and referencing it occurred to me that I may be toeing the line as to copyright infringement and the like. I don’t want to end up like Mr Tenenbaum and pay $22,500 per infringement…there might be a few. Taking a closer look at the steps I’m taking to acknowledge my sources: Photos:...

DIGC102 Code of Ethics - Australian Journalism
The Australian Journalist Association’s Code of Ethics can be found here. The introduction gives its definition of a proper Journalist: ‘Respect for truth and the public’s right to information are fundamental principles of journalism. Journalists describe society to itself. They convey information, ideas and opinions, a privileged role. They search, disclose, record, question,...

DIGC101 Reflective Essay
Q: How has the proliferation of the blogosphere allowed otherwise non ‘tech-savvy’ members of the public to communicate and participate in online communities? To all accounts the Blogosphere is huge, but according to Andrew Keen there were 53 million blogs at the time of writing of his 2007 book Cult of the Amateur (Keen, 2007). Keen also states that this number is doubling every 6 months,...

Week 5 Reflection on Social Networking
Social Networking is such a massive part of my life. There would not be a day that goes by where I don’t update, post on or participate in Facebook, Tumblr or Twitter. Facebook is almost an addiction, Tumblr is now fast catching up and the use of Twitter, while still often, is finally starting to fade. Thank god I never had a Myspace. However this compulsion to participate in online...

DIGC102 Regulation in the Music Industry
-Largely self-regulating, apart from copyright and trademark enforcement, the music industry is mostly based around self-regulated publishers, producers and artists. - In Australia the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) imposes regulation on the content of music available for sale. Comprises of 4 labels, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and exceeding Level 3. Progresses from Level 1,...

DIGC101 Online Identity
So far I’ve identified three key areas in which my blog needs to address to be a succesful, informative, and entertaining site. These are interactivity, constant flow of information, and appropriate content. 1. Interactivity: This was the hardest area to address as I dont particularly want to open up the blog to posts from the public but nor do I want to seem like a completely...

#DIGC102 Research Assignment - Joel Tenenbaum and...
The widespread proliferation of p2p file sharing has become a major topic across all industrialised and digitised countries. For the music industry in particular it has meant the loss of millions, if not billions, of dollars in revenue from downturns in CD sales and legal online downloads. Legally, legislations has been introduced to try and control p2p file sharing, legal acts like ‘The Digital...

Myspace Update
Myspace is looking to be a useful tool in researching music artists and their details, etc. etc. I promise I wont stalk any of them. I might keep a target for Myspace, say five new bands added per day. Hopefully that doesnt count as suspicious activity. I think in facebook its closer to 20 friends per day.

Progress Made
Although myspace is confusing I’ll admit that for music journalism networking is actually quite easy. Already got one band that I blogged about previously to add me as a friend, feel so special. Might continue with myspace, it looks relatively interesting.

DIGC101 My Myspace Identity
On Myspace I plan to use it to promote my other blog And For Tonights Main Act… which is the focus for my web presence in DIGC101. And For Tonights Main Act… focuses on interestingly named bands from Triple J Unearthed web pages. The names dont have to fit into a particular genre or category, they just have to grab my attention. The Myspace account will be used as another outlet for posts I...
